The Graduate School of Translation & Interpretation (GSTI) was founded in June, 2012 by integrating TFSU’s faculty resources from the programs of Simultaneous Interpretation (SI) and Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI), and merging the Center for Translation of TFSU. The school aims to train high-caliber and professionally competent translators and interpreters for the country and the city.
The GSTI currently boasts some 200 students and more than 30 professors, and offers two graduate programs—SI in English and Japanese and MTI in English, Japanese, Russian, French, German, and Korean. It also offers high-end translation and interpretation services to the municipal government, and delivers language services to Tianjin’s economic and social development.
Students of the GSTI can enjoy various scholarships including the National Scholarship. The school holds regularly high-level “Translation Forums”, “Postgraduate Forums” and “Celebrity Forums” by inviting renowned scholars and professors from home and abroad. It organizes various extracurricular activities and provides social practice opportunities by cooperating with Jin Wan Bao and establishing practice bases in Tianjin Airport Economic Development Bureau, Tianjin Art Museum and Wu Da Dao Tourist Services. Graduates from the school mainly go to government-affiliated institutions, universities, research institutions and foreign-owned enterprises.
